I need feminism because a game company has created one of the most dynamic and interesting characters in all of gaming, replete with a complex personality, realistic actions and reactions, changing and nuanced motives, and genuinely superb mocap/voice acting…AND this character happens to be female.
…yet the main thing that gamers on game forums are discussing is her cleavage. (an most of that “discussion” is just complaints that she should have worn this cleavage-revealing dress throughout the whole game)
Don’t get me started on the gamers who thought her brutal torture scene was hot. Ugh.
3 percent of the decision-making in media comes from women. That means 97 percent of how women are portrayed is decided on by men.

It also means that 97 percent of how men are portrayed in media are decided on by men. Something to remind MRAs and their ilk of when they complain about the stereotype of men as inept slobs, bad fathers, etc in media and advertising.
Men have the power. So when we men are shat on by the powers that be you don’t get to try and blame women for that.

Abortion seems to be the only medical procedure that people want to deny you based on how you got in that situation. Drove drunk, got in an accident and need an organ transplant? No problem. Messing around with a gun, accidentally shoot yourself in the leg and need surgery? Of course. Smoke tobacco for most of your life and need treatment for lung cancer? Yep. Climb a tree, fall out and break your leg? We’ll fix that right up. Have sex and get pregnant when you don’t want to be? YOU GOT YOURSELF INTO THIS SITUATION AND YOU DESERVE NO MEDICAL HELP OR COMPASSION! THIS IS YOUR FAULT AND YOU WILL DEAL WITH THE CONSEQUENCES!
Today’s Boston marathon tragedy reminds us how precious life truly is. Our hearts and thoughts are with those affected in or outside Boston. Remember that we’re here if you need to talk: 1-866-488-7386
“You’re pretty good at _______ for a woman.”
I need feminism because once, after giving detailed highway directions to another woman, she replied: “Wow, you’re pretty good at directions, for a woman.” When misogyny is so ingrained into society that other women find it appropriate to use phrases like this, social change is necessary.
Just a note to all people planning on giving blood, remember it only has a shelf life of 42 days. After 9/11, so many people donated that there was a glut of blood in the system and much of it expired on the shelves, unused, because there was more than needed. ALso, if you donate right now, you will not be eligible to donate again for 8 weeks, so about a month after 9/11 there was a bit of a shortage, because many people couldn’t donate again for several weeks. Consider delaying your donation for a week or two to insure a good steady flow of blood that will allow blood banks to replenish their inventory. Most blood banks in the United States are part of an emergency sharing system and will be shipping ready to transfuse products to Boston if they are needed. Spacing out donations insures everyone will have blood to provide their community in the coming weeks.

Useful information! Please consider spacing out your donations! (and if you can, please donate)
Slavery: “GET OVER IT!”
Imperialism: “GET OVER IT!”
Exploitation: “GET OVER IT!”
World Starvation: “GET OVER IT”
Genocide: “GET OVER IT!”
Occupation: “GET OVER IT!”
9/11: “NEVER FORGET!”
That…
That is an awfully good point.
